Overview
The applicants and their spouses/de-facto partners will be required to demonstrate a personal net worth in excess 5 million Australia dollars in order to meet the criteria. It is equally important that the wealth so accumulated must be obtained through lawful means and business or investment activities. Inherited wealth is also considered a lawful way of accumulating wealth as long as sufficient documentary evidence is provided and the assets shown for this visa are not the proceeds of war crimes or any other unlawful activities.
Eligibility Criteria:
For grant of the visa, the applicant must make an investment of at least AUD 5 million in a “complying investment” as explained below:
A “complying investment” for the purposes of the Significant Investor Visa must be made up of:
- At least $500,000 in venture capital and growth private equity funds which invest in start-ups and small private companies
- At least $1.5 million in approved managed funds investing in emerging companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange.
- A ‘balancing investment’ of up to $3 million in managed funds that may invest in a range of assets, including ASX-listed companies, Australian corporate bonds or notes, annuities and commercial real estate
- Meet the health and character requirements
This visa subclass has a more “relaxed” eligibility criteria to acknowledge that High Net-worth Individuals have the necessary resources to establish themselves in Australia with relative ease and contribute to the Australian economy. Hence, this visa subclass offers the following concessions:
- No age limit for the primary applicant
- No requirement to meet the point test
- First visa is granted for a duration of 5 years and the applicants are allowed to extend the visa twice
- Lower residency requirements for obtaining the permanent residence visa i.e. Subclass 888

First VAC
- Primary Applicant: $8,925 | Secondary Applicant – over 18 years: $4,465 | Additional applicant – under 18 years: $2,235
Second VAC
- A primary applicant over the age of 18 years assessed as not having functional English – $9,795
- Any other applicant over the age of 18 assessed as not having functional English – $4,890
